President’s Letter Aug. 2014
What a strange summer. The greatest event this summer has been lack of mosquitoes. I was hoping that the wild winter would keep the population down but the experts said that the cold wild winter we had would do nothing to stop their abundance. Either the experts didn’t know what they were talking about or the number of dry days this summer must have had something to do with it. I have been busy drawing and painting. I have two sketches of Scotch Ridge almost finished and am working on one of the Luckey train station with a train sitting next to it. My son Drew helped me getting the appropriate engine, as I don’t have any good pictures of an actual train at the station. If you are looking through old photos of Luckey and have a photo of actual trains in Luckey, I would love to scan them for our collection.
Next month is the Luckey Fall Festival. Dick and Dave are busy working on the Whatzit board. I considered not having a booth this year as I miss enjoying the festival with my family. Dick, Dave, Ruth and I would like your help. Below is a note from Dave;
The Luckey fall Festival is fast approaching. The Luckey Historical Society has reserved a space under the commercial tent. If you would like to help out manning the space it would be greatly appreciated. Richard & Dave Otte will be creating the Whatzit board again this year. Two hour shifts should be manageable, starting Friday at 4:00 PM until approximately 8:00 P.M. and Saturday 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Sunday 10:00 A. M. until approximately 3:00 P.M. If you could help at any time please let us know. Signed, Dave Otte
The theme for our fall festival display will be centered around our recently acquired Cheerleading sweater. I am looking for any cheerleading photos, stories, or memorabilia. Below are photo’s from Trojans, (the Troy – Luckey yearbook).
Hope to see you at our monthly meeting – Thurs. Aug. 21st at 6;30 in the Luckey Library.
Over and out, Sally
