Simon Brough was born Mar. 17, 1858 in Sandusky Co., OH to George and Catharine (Shoemaker) Brough [see George Brough bio]. He died Mar. 7, 1884 in Pemberville, OH. He married in Troy Township to Anna Sophia Fredericka Hintz, daughter of Fred Hintz of Lake Township, Wood Co., OH. Anna was born Aug 10, 1871 in Woodville, Sandusky Co., OH and she died Apr. 11, 1948 in Toledo, OH. However, at the time of her death she resided in Troy Township, Wood Co., OH. To Simon and Anna were born 8 children; Otto Fred Brough 1892 – 1981; Ernest John Brough 1895  –  ; Lester Charles Brough 1897 – 1978; Permilla Brough 1899 – 1900; Chester H. Brough 1901 – 1978; Leonard F. Brough 1906 – ; Carl; Allen Brough 1910 – 1989; Arthur F. Brough 1916 –

   [Simon Brough, a representative farmer of Troy Township, is finely located in Section 1, where he is maintaining his place among the progressive and intelligent men around him engaged in farming. He is a son of George and Catherine (Shoemaker) Brough, the former a native of Pennsylvania, and the latter of Germany. The father was reared in Pennsylvania, and when a young man, came with his father, Simon Brough (B 1806), to Sandusky County, where the latter died. Mr. Brough, of this review, was eight years of age when the family located upon a farm in Troy Township, and there became familiar with agricultural pursuits, which occupation he has made his life work.

In politics, Mr. Brough is an uncompromising Democrat, and is an energetic, wide-awake citizen, keenly alive to the interests of his township and county, and ready to meet and aid any scheme for their benefit. Simon, his wife Catharine and many of their children are buried in Troy Township Cemetery.
